Idea #40
Be Creative with Recycled Plastic
And Mold Something Good to Eat:
SHAPED FRUIT SALAD
NOTE: This recipe is like the topping for: “Chilax Cake” (Orange gelatin with mandarin oranges)
INGREDIENTS:
1 package of gelatin (any flavor)
1 Canned fruit (8 oz. -15oz.) or fresh fruit (apples, oranges etc. Remove seeds)
Optional: gummy candy
Mold
DIRECTIONS:
1. Make your favorite gelatin according to package directions.
2. Add canned fruit (drain water). If you want to turn this salad into a dessert for parties, add gummy candy.
3. Pour into your favorite mold and refrigerate until it is set.
4. To unmold the fruit salad, turn upside down on to a platter and trickle hot water over top. Be careful not to saturate the mold.
HINTS FOR DIFFERENT TYPES OF SHAPES/MOLDS:
Different sized cake pans
Glass Mixing bowls
Create an ocean: use a 13x9 glass pan and combine blue gelatin and gummy fish.

I once read an old 1960’s magazine that suggested opening a large can of pineapple, draining juice leaving pineapple in place and pouring green gelatin inside the tin can! It is refrigerated this way. When it is set, turn can upside down on a plate and using a can opener, open the bottom pushing the mold onto the plate. Slice gelatin- pineapple and serve.
COMBINE THIS RECIPE WITH A FUN RECYCLING PROJECT TO DO WITH CHILDREN:
MAKE A SNOW CYLINDAR: Fill an empty individual plastic bottle (sport drink, water bottles, etc.) with glitter, small plastic toys and water. Seal lid securely.
